All Appraisals Are Done In-House

All appraisals are done in house by our appraiser, a Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America. GIA is the world’s foremost authority on diamonds, colored stones, and pearls.

Our appraiser will provide you with a written detailed description of each piece of jewelry, including grading all diamonds, identification of all gemstones, measurements, a photograph and a replacement or fair market value.

What To Expect

When you drop off your jewelry for appraisal at Quality Gem, our sales staff will go over each item with you, and assist you in finding the type of appraisal that would best suit your needs. Our turnaround time for most appraisals is between one to two weeks. Your jewelry is stored securely in our safe, and never leaves our building.

Insurance Appraisals

Jewelry is meant to be worn! Jewelry insurance can give you the peace of mind to wear and enjoy your jewelry every day instead of keeping it locked in a safe or security deposit box. Estate and Fair Market Appraisals

This type of appraisal gives a fair market value for your jewelry instead of an insurance replacement cost. Fair market value is a selling price for an item to which a buyer and seller can agree. It is often used to settle an estate for tax purposes or help in dispersing jewelry equally among heirs.

We understand you may be apprehensive about leaving your most valuable and sentimental items. We want you to be completely comfortable.  Like a fingerprint, every diamond is different. When you bring a diamond in for appraisal, we will show it to you under the microscope and create a plot of the unique internal characteristics of your stone. These characteristics will be shown to you again upon picking up the piece, so you know you are taking back exactly what you left.
